She has had a month of rest and relaxation, and now she’s back. Warrawee Koine, the unbeaten big black filly who recently swept the Silver Reign series at Woodbine, will be back at the Rexdale oval on Monday night, April 27, for the $20,000 first leg of the Ontario Sired Spring Series for sophomore pacing fillies.

A daughter of Astreos, Warrawee Koine has been a pleasant surprise for Dr. Michael Wilson, whose Warrawee Farm in Rockwood, Ontario bred the filly. She went unraced at two, but as a three-year-old she has so far been unstoppable, scoring four victories in four starts and collecting over $50,000 for her owners and trainer Gregg McNair.

Warrawee Koine will go postward in the first of two Spring Series splits (race #3, post time 8:02 p.m.), with Mike Saftic at the lines. She’s currently rated the even-money favourite in that field.

In the second Spring Series split (race #5, post time 8:46 p.m.), Yellow Diamond is expected to sparkle. The three-year-old daughter of Western Terror scored her first stakes victory, a nine-length romp in the $76,000 Tender Loving Care Final at The Meadowlands, in a new stakes record time of 1:51.3, on February 20. Since then she has moved north of the border to the shedrow of Casie Coleman, and won her qualifier at Mohawk on April 20 by a seven-and-a-quarter-length margin. She’ll have Mark MacDonald to guide her on Monday night.

The Ontario Sired Spring Series for sophomore pacing fillies will continue on Monday, May 4 at Mohawk Racetrack.
